Business Intelligence on a Budget

The workshop was held on September 18, 2008 at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. It was co-sponsored by the NC-SLA and BLINC (Business Librarianship in North Carolina) We had nearly 50 attendees!

Our morning speaker, Susan Wolf Neilson, from the Cameron Village Regional Library in Wake County, spoke on the topic of Marketing on the Cheap. The presentation covered various uses of market information, as well as many resources to find the information. The audience also suggested a number of complementary sites during the discussions.

The afternoon session included presentations from three panel members, followed by discussion, on the topic of Company Information.

  • Lydia Towery from the Charlotte Mecklenberg County Public Library, showed us how to find company information through some of the NC LIVE databases. NC LIVE is available to any resident of North Carolina through the public library system.
  • Mark Howell from RTI International, showed us how to find company information through business journals, government contracts, patent databases and the SEC.
  • Sperry Krueger from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, showed us how she uses public records and social networking sites (specifically to search for company information.
